Wedding of Irene & Victor
Real Fábrica de Tapices
Irene and Victor, the stars of this post, are a couple of architects who contacted us more than a year before their wedding. They knew they wanted to get married in the city of Madrid, and since they didn’t want “a typical wedding,” they knew they’d need help with the preparations, which is why they hired our wedding planning service. They wanted to celebrate their wedding in November, in the city center, and give their wedding a more laid-back atmosphere than usual.
They got married exactly 1 year ago today, so to mark the date I’m going to tell you the story of this wedding.
The civil ceremony was held at the Casa de la Panadería, in Madrid’s Plaza Mayor. We helped the couple with the paperwork needed to book the date at the City Hall and with everything that entails. I have to admit I love these weddings where everything starts right in the heart of the city. The groom made his way there by Metro! And the truth is that, besides adding a natural and relaxed feel to the day, doing things like this makes the wedding photos turn out as cool as these.
Irene and Victor are big lovers of the city of Madrid and wanted to surprise their guests by inviting them for hot chocolate and churros at San Ginés after the ceremony. So as guests left the ceremony we handed out confetti and vouchers to redeem at the famous Madrid chocolate shop, where we all headed afterwards to do one of the most traditionally Madrilenian things there is. We also brought a sound system there, with which an architecture professor and close friend of the couple gave a speech about this city that means so much to them.
We went back and forth a lot over the venue, since there were several options that fit the idea of the wedding the couple had in mind, and in the end La Real Fábrica de Tapices was the place chosen for this wedding. Afterwards we helped them choose the catering, and La Cococha fit the couple’s idea very well: a long cocktail hour followed by a buffet, so the final result was a slightly more informal wedding than usual, which is exactly what Irene and Victor wanted.
Once at the Real Fábrica de Tapices, under a glorious sun and with a temperature that felt totally spring-like even though it was mid-November, the guests enjoyed a wonderful cocktail hour with live music (Ladies & Monkeys, a band made up of friends of the couple, performed).
The decor for this wedding was very autumnal, with heather and moss in the centerpieces. In the cocktail area we set up a Mahou corner (in the green can, as the groom likes it), and the seating plan was displayed on reclaimed wooden choir stalls that the bride had salvaged from the restoration of an old building she was working on — so it couldn’t be more personal. Overall it was a wedding with a really great atmosphere, with a relaxed and happy couple and guests who thoroughly enjoyed this lovely day.
