Wedding of Laura & David
La Encomienda
A fairy-tale wedding, a gorgeous and fun couple, rustic style in a unique, very countryside setting. The perfect formula to make Laura and David’s wedding an unforgettable day, not only for the couple but for us too.
Laura and David live in Amsterdam; he is from Galicia and she is from Puertollano. When they contacted
us they already had the wedding date decided, as well as the venue where they would celebrate it: La Encomienda, a well-known restaurant in La Mancha with decor typical of the area, a beautiful garden and a marquee for events.
They were clear that they needed professional help to turn this venue into the place they had in mind for their wedding, and they hired
our services to design the whole
wedding decor
and help them with the last preparations for the big day, such as finding a stylist, florists and every detail to make sure everything would be perfect.
They held a civil ceremony that we set up in an area of the garden surrounded by trees. For the setup we favoured a rustic, simple style that set the tone for every space at the wedding. we ordered wooden chairs and placed small flower bouquets on the chairs and on the officiant’s table, which set the mood for the whole ceremony area.
As a very special touch, we hired a Dutch bicycle, just like the one the groom rides every day in Amsterdam, with a “Just Married” sign to welcome the guests. And to beat the late-June heat, we also set up a fresh lemonade table to greet guests as they arrived at the ceremony.
We decorated the cocktail hour with arrangements we made ourselves using baby’s breath, astilbe and eucalyptus, and tablecloths we brought from Madrid in cheerful shades of green, very much in keeping with the outdoor space where it was held.
Another thing the couple were very clear about was that the cocktail hour should have a lot of weight in the wedding, and that guests should have different spaces to move around and try different things. So we set up a beer corner with Heineken and Estrella Galicia (a nod to the groom’s homeland ;), we also set up a cheese table, a cava table… and a Pulpeira (octopus vendor) even came all the way from Galicia!
The couple wanted to escape from protocol and have the young crowd mix during dinner. So we hired beautiful long solid-wood tables, where everyone could freely choose where to sit. And then we set up 6 tables with white-and-beige striped tablecloths for close family, where seats were assigned.
La Encomienda’s marquee, all white and spacious, was a great base to design a very special space. Besides the exposed wooden tables, we placed a rustic centrepiece in the middle of the marquee, with baby’s breath, wicker baskets, wooden crates and lots of candles. On the long tables we alternated arrangements with jars of different sizes, and green garlands. We also placed a floral detail on each plate, along with a thank-you card from the couple. The menus were presented in kraft folders. And the whole ceiling of the marquee was decorated with pastel-coloured bunting.
The open bar was framed by lovely festoon lights that we set up on the morning of the wedding, which helped give this part of the celebration the festive summer-fair feel the couple were looking for.
We can’t deny it turned out beautifully. People had a wonderful time and commented on how lovely the
wedding decor
had turned out, especially the marquee. And we were, of course, absolutely delighted!
